Lily Keber is Louisiana Filmmaker's Salute honoree
The 3rd annual Pontchartrain Film Festival will salute this year's Louisiana filmmaker honoree, Director Lily Keber with a screening of her award winning film "BAYOU MAHARAJAH" on opening night, Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at Slidell Little Theatre. The film, about the illusive New Orleans piano player James Booker, won the 2014 Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities Documentary Film of the Year Award.
Keber will be in attendance and a question & answer session with the director will follow the screening.
The film premiered at the 2013 SXSW FIlm Festival; won the audience award at the New Orleans Film Festival, and was awarded Oxford American’s Best Southern Film of 2013. “Bayaou Maharajah” is directed by Keber, and produced by Keber and Nathan Kohn. The film features appearances by Dr. John, Harry Connick Jr., Hugh Laurie, Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Charles Neville and Douglas Brinkley.
The Pontchartrain Film Fest opened in 2011 with a salute to Glen Pitre and screening of "Belizaire the Cajun; and in 2013, honored Connie Castille, screening her film "T-Galop: A Louisiana Horse Story."
